A Student Thank-You to Our Troops!

To be born free is an accident.
To live free is a privilege.
To die free is a responsibility.
I was asked to write an essay revealing why we salute our veterans.
These brave young men and women we entrust our lives to in the battlefield, below deck, or even behind a computer.
They gave up their life, their family, their home, to protect our family, our home, and our life.
Our veterans are selfless, putting other people’s needs before their own.
When a kindergartner thinks of a person in the military, a soldier is what automatically comes to mind.
But there is many other people that are helping our country graciously, even if they do not serve in the front lines.
My great grandfather served as a plane engineer, during World War II. He worked below deck, fixing the air forces planes.
He also worked on Liberty Ships, which carried cargo back and forth to Casablanca, Morocco.
My Great Great Grandfather worked as a soldier in World War I.
He was on the front lines, in a trench and received permanent, irreversible lung damage from the gas explosions.
Many soldiers were there with him, all trying to achieve the same goal; protect our nation.
Being a veteran is not a job for everyone. Not everybody can be selfless. Not everybody can look death in the eye, and keep going.
Thank you to our veterans, if you are here or not, for giving me the life I have today.

When we ship care packages we need to do it 4-6 weeks in advance of a holiday.  Hard to think about Valentines Day in Dec or January but we need that lead time.

Example:  Valentines care packages are mailed in January
